I recently saw a poll on Sarah Flake's website about regifting. Regifting has had a bad name for a long time. Why is there such a negative conotation about regifting? Why do I sometimes feel guilt? It's not that it was a bad gift. It's just that it wasn't for me. Or maybe I already had one or two or three.
Ok, Christmas time is now upon us. Inevitable some of you out there have a gift that you don't think you'll use or enjoy. Or some of you will receive a such a gift. What will you do? Return the gift? Tuck it away somewhere in your closet? Or will you regift it? Regifting , according to Wikipedia, is the act of taking a gift that has been received and giving it to somebody else in the guise of a new gift. Though regifting has gone since the beginning of time - think the serpent, Eve, the apple and Adam - the term only entered the vernacular following a 1995 "Seinfeld" episode dedicated to the practice. Some think the practice is unusual and socially wrong, but a recent Harris Poll shows us that it occurs quite often. I don't regift...not usually at least. I usually have a gift receipt, and I'll get store credit instead. I am in no way opposed to regifting, and I will say right now I am an open advocate for regifting. What do you think?
