Automatic Flushing

I'm not sure if I am a fan of automatic flushing toilets or not. I'm all in favor of automatic flushing urinals. I have no problem with them. I'm just not sure I like the automatic flushing toilets.

Today I needed to relieve myself, and so I grabbed a newspaper and headed into a stall. For all of you who frown at my reading on the pot, I assure you that there are worse habits out there. Back when I was a janitor, I was continually shocked at what I found in the feminine product trash bags in the women's restrooms. A Twinkie wrapper is not a feminine product! And there really are better places to eat your Twinkies and cookies and such. People really don't care if you are are going to have some sugar. Stop eating in the bathroom, and eat your sugar out in public. We don't care if you are fat or getting there.

Anyway, like I was saying, there are worse things than reading on the pot. As I was enjoying an article, the toilet flushed on me. I really hate feeling all that poo-water splashing up on my tushie. It is cold, and really just disgusting. Then when I was really done, the automatic flusher wouldn't flush. I looked for a manual override, and there wasn't one. I was forced to leave a not so nice surprise for someone else.

I have to think, "Is it really all that hard to flush the toilet by myself?" I don't believe that touching the flusher is any dirtier than wiping. Either way I plan on washing my hands about two seconds later.

So I ask you, which is better: automatic or manual flusher?

I apologize for the potty talk, but it was necessary to address the topic. Now the real question is whether it was necessary to address this topic.

Probably not, but I do have to say that with manual toilets they will only flush away things left behind if someone does it. At least the automatic ones will eventually flush on their own when another person walks into the stall. The prefect combo is the automatic that is not too sensitive (so it doesn't flush while you are sitting there) with a manual override.

Of course, public restrooms in general are pretty ew.
