Big news yesterday as two of the top Republican presidential candidates – Rudy Giuliani and John McCain – announced they will not compete in the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll, an event long-known for its significance in choosing a presidential nominee.This comes on the heels of Tuesday’s Presidential debate where Governor Romney showed the nation he is the best candidate to bring conservative change to Washington. It’s clear the Governor’s message is resonating; recent polls now show him leading in the all-important early states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
Governor Romney has built the best organization on the ground and communicated his message effectively to the point where the other leading candidates have decided to abandon the Ames Straw Poll. It’s likely they saw the writing on the wall and have recognized their organizations are outmatched and their message falls flat with Republican voters in Iowa.
With the end of the quarter just three weeks away, we have a lot of work to do to prove that Romney for President continues to mean business. A strong showing for the end-of-quarter fundraising is the last piece of the puzzle needed to show that “Mitt-mentum” is here to stay.
