Halloween was really fun. It had been sometime since either Melissa and I had been Trick-or-Treating. Lindsey had never been. We all dressed up as pumpkins, so as a family we were a pumpkin patch. We accidentally left our camera at home, so we are awaiting an email containing all of the pictures. We scandalously exploited Lindsey's cuteness to help us harvest candy. Most everyone saw through our little ploy right away, but we really didn't care. People handing out candy fell into one of three basic groups:
- They knew right away that Lindsey was too young for candy of any type. Maybe her toothless smile gave it away. They smiled and asked what mom and dad liked.
- They were clueless and looked through their bucket of candy for something that Lindsey could eat. All the while Melissa and I tried not to laugh and blurt out, "Are you kidding? This kiddo is not getting a single piece...I mean she likes KitKats."
- Those who disapproved of us exploiting our child for candy. To these people we smiled and trust out our bag, stubbornly and silently demanding the goodies. We dressed up. We smiled. We said Trick-or-Treat. I wonder if they realized that this was not a benign saying but a threat. Give us the treat, or we will play a trick on your property. Hey, we even said thank you at the end.
