Backpacking Trip

Ben Parker, Dave Cook, Ella (Dave's dog), and I got back on Tuesday from our trip up in the Uintah mountains. It was a great trip. We started at the Upper Stillwater Resevoir and did a loop back to it. It was about 25 miles. We went from about 8000 ft up to around 11000 ft and back down again. We had a lot of dehyrated food including jerky, green bean, onions, carrots, mangos, bananas, apples, and spaghetti sauce. The spaghetti sauce ends up the consistancy of a Fruit Roll-Up. We boiled the spaghetti, took out the noodle, and then boiled the sauce until it rehydrated. We actually ate pretty well. The first day we even had steak and mashed potatoes.

One day we thought we heard an elk calling. We had seen a lot of elk and deer droppings and hoof prints. We were a little worried that a bear might be stalking it. The elk kept getting closer and closer. Suddenly we saw something brown move through the woods. It looked like a bear, and Ben called out to Dave to watch out. We were scared. Then the beast moved out into the open and we realized that our attacker was a very scary cow. It had also been the animal calling out, but that cow had one weird "moo." It really did sound like an elk. I'm from Texas, and I have heard quite a few cows, but never one like this. I think that it had a cold. I'm sure that crazy cow got a good laugh out of us.

Check out all of our pictures.

Yes, Ella is the crazy dog that ate the fish hook. She was so good before that.

Green with envy here. It sounds like a great time, and we enjoyed the pics! I can't believe the dog ate the fish hook! Did Bubba come along?
