Food Budget on a Dime

Melissa and I, like all the other college students out there are trying to get more out of our dimes and pennies. We decided that we were going to eat more like Brazilians to save some money and also to eat healthier. I am proud to say that we now are eating better than we were, but we only spend $125 per month on food. The key for us is to regularly include beans and rice in our meals. We are cutting down on many expenses by making things ourselves. We make our own bread and pasta. We also have a strict shopping list when we go to the store, but if something we use all the time is on sale, then we stock up on it. Another thing that can be a great help is to go spend some time at the cannery. If you serve there, then you can buy food afterwards. It is an excellent way to stock up on things. We use the wheat from there to grind our own wheat flour. One more thing that really helps us is to make our own deserts. That really helps us to not impulse snack. If you have to bake something before you can enjoy it, then you think twice about if you really want it or not. If anyone has any low budget recipes, then please send them our way.
