Springtime has arrived, and I personally (along with the children) love the wild bunnies in the area! Jared's not as fond because they'll eat your flowers, but I don't care. They're just the cutest, little brown bunnies. They usually come out late evening or early morning.
The other morning, I was in the backyard and noticed a little baby bunny in the corner of our fence so I got the kids out to see him. They were so excited! Especially Justin! We looked at him for awhile, then he bolted from the corner of the yard and I lost him around the back of the house. I just figured he made it under the fence somewhere. Justin was crushed when we lost sight of him.
Fast forward to that night-middle of the night, I mean. I wake up to Maverick barking and growling in the dining room. This was extremely unnerving because he only does that to strange things/people in the house-he's not a routine barker. I finally found the nerve to drag myself out of bed and check it out. I saw a toy under the kitchen table and figured that was the culprit. It was a small, rabbit balloon that Grandma had gotten for her. I just figured the shadow was alarming Maverick. I went to reach for it under the table and that's when I spied the REAL culprit! A real, LIVE, baby bunny in the dining room!!! I woke Jared up to come help me. What I think happened is when the baby bunny ran around the back of the house that morning he actually ran INTO the house and was hiding out until he ventured out only to be spotted by Maverick. I'm just glad there was no clean-up of a dead rabbit involved.
This little guy was so tiny! We threw a sheet over him and grabbed him-I was afraid he might die of fright before we got him back outside.
We put him in the yard where he did not move at all. So, we left him and by the morning he was gone. What a fun, nighttime surprise!! Our very own little Easter bunny!
